ADD/ADHD 

While most people understand ADHD as a problem that causes young people to perform poorly at school, they are unaware that its impact goes far beyond academic failure. In addition to poor concentration and attention span, ADHD also causes low self esteem, depression and anger among its sufferers, both children and adults. Being unable to perform up to our capabilities at school, or at work, ADHD undermines our sense of confidence in ourselves. It frustrates and angers those around us. It causes conflict between parents and their affected children, and between spouses and family members. However, with appropriate treatment and clear strategies to deal with the direct symptoms of ADHD and its consequences, ADHD can be remediated. This allows the affected individuals to be successful in their endeavors and the surrounding family members to regain the happiness they previously enjoyed with their child or partner.

While eating disorders manifest themselves as medical problems, and require treatment by a knowledgeable and caring physician, their causes are psychological. Psychotherapy is a primary treatment for eating disorder. Changing the 'mindset' of an individual afflicted with an eating disorders, creating effective coping strategies, building confidence and improving self image are all part of successful plan to heal both the mind and the body.

Family Therapy 

Family can influence our perceptions, our modes of interacting, and our styles of communicating. In Family therapy, the therapist applies therapeutic principles while engaging the participation of family members, individually and as a group. The process recognizes and reinforces constructive aspects of the family's relationships, while also allowing destructive elements and counter-productive interaction styles to be identified, acknowledged and changed. A family is considered to be any group of individuals who are committed to one another's well-being (usually for life).

Marital/Couples Therapy 

Marital/couples therapy assists couples in working more effectively as a couple and in cultivating mutually acceptable problem-solving strategies. Being a successful couple means taking into consideration our partner's needs and desires, while at the same time not forgetting about own individual needs. Couples often lose sight of what it means to be a couple and get lost in constant battle with each other. Therapy can help couples break down unhealthy patterns of interacting and work on developing a health relationship. The therapist also helps the couple pay attention to the patterns which connect them as a means of appreciating the overall structure of their relationship. Any two individuals who are in a committed relationship can seek couples therapy. 

Typical problems that couples seek treatment for include:

Men / Male Therapy

Being a male in our society presents unique challenges and pressures that are often contradictory. In the community men are told to ‘tough it out’, ‘man up’. At home men are told that they are not sensitive enough, or that they’re too angry, emotionally distant or unfeeling. Men are often socialized to ignore or deny their feelings.

Men require special understanding of these issues when seeking, or being referred for, psychotherapy. My practice presents a comfortable environment in which to help adult men, young men and boys to manage the various parts of their lives in which they are struggling. I strive to help men to function well in all areas of life and to live more happily.
